Well this morning I had to get a new hard drive, and for some reason I couldn't transfer my data over to the new one, which sucks. I reinstalled Windows, and when I went to the Control Panel, it gave me this:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

So far it only does this when I try to get to the Control Panel. Just ask if you need more information.

Not a big suprise on a new install. Can you go and get the latest windows updates? Also, did you install at the very least the drivers that came with the hardware on your system?

Kind of a generic checklist:

Operating system
Motherboard chipset
Video
Audio
Input Drivers (if needed - eg, keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network card/chipset

Connect to internet:

Service pack update(s) and all the security and other updates since the last service pack

I take that back, I was just assuming they were installed. How do I find out if the stuff on your checklist is installed?
