Windows installer freeze when installing Sun Java

I just got a new hard drive and did a fresh install of window xp and everything was going very smooth.
I installed firefox and when trying to install a sun java plug in I ran into some issues. First I try to just use firefox and download the plug in and install, however it did not work (not sure if windows installer showed up the first time). So I decide to down load the actuall file and try to install it that way. When click on it the regular installing shield pop up and everything was normal until windows installer poped up and just hangs in there forever and ever. When I click Cancel it would show canceling but the windows installer remain. So I bring up the task manager and try to end it from there. I can end precess for Jav1.temp.exe and J2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe. However when I try to end Msiexec.exe the windows installer disappeared but I was unable to end Msiexec.exe on my task manager list. It remains there and does not matter how many times I try to end process. So I try to restart my computer but it will not restart or shut down at all. My computer just stucks there and I was able to use it like normal even after I try to shut down many times and did Ctrl+alt+delete many times. Task manager would not come up nor would the computer shut down or restart. In the end I had to hold on my power switch for 5 second to shut and reboot.
After that I use Ace Utilities and clean up all junk file and reg and hoping something would get clean out and it would fix the problem.. but it did not. So can anyone help me with my problem??

Boot into Safe Mode.

UNinstall this piece of M$-beta-crap, the virus-writers and script-kiddies are already after it:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe

In task-manager(ctrl-alt-del) try to STOP these processes if you can:
C:\DOCUME~1\Jerry\LOCALS~1\Temp\Jav1.tmp.exe
C:\Jerry ETC\j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe

Next, move your HJT to its OWN directory, e.g. c:\program files\hijackthis

Now run HJT standalone and let it "fix" (if still there):
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe
C:\Jerry ETC\j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Jerry\LOCALS~1\Temp\Jav1.tmp.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gcasServ] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe"

Next, clean out EVERYTHING from C:\DOCUME~1\Jerry\LOCALS~1\Temp\ incl. any subdirectories
Clean out your temporary internet files from both IE and Firefox.
Delete j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe

After booting back in Normal mode, go to Sun's website and D/L version JRE 5.0 update 1 instead
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

Check if MSIEXEC is still active. If so, report back.
