Windows refusing to load, XP SP2

Hi all.
I was using my computer this morning and it froze when i was playing a game. I reset it and every time it reaches the 'windows xp is loading' screen, it reboots. Loading the 'last known good configuration' wont work, again, it freezes. I started it in safe mode so i could see what it was doing when it freezes and it appears to be loading the mup.sys file (might be the file after that). I have put my XP disc in to try and repair it, but when i choose the repair option, it states loads of numbers/codes and something about the ntfs.sys file, telling me to reboot. I have also tried installing a fresh version of XP from the CD but it does the same thing... Any ideas greatly appreciated.
I don't know if this will help but my HD is 40GB, runs at 7200rpm and is ATA100.
Thanks. (the computer i am using now is my brothers)
