Windows xp backup won't run

does anyone have a suggestion as to why backup (xp) siezes up when i try to run it?

Do you have InCD (Nero) or Drag to Disk ( Roxio ) virtual drives mounted ? ?

the program won't advance beyond the screen which says 'preparing to backup using shadow copy' Error report syays operation didn't complete successfully

i have Ahead Nero. Is that the same thing?
