Windows xp/startup/all programs

Can anyone tell me why when I go to my startup list and then to all programs,
in the very first collumn 3/4 of the items are covered by a grey area until I run my pointer over it then they appear.
I have checked and have more than enough memory
also, some times after I leave the 'all programs ' window the edges of that window remain on my desktop until I refresh my desktop

NOthing overly serious I know...but can be annoying

Make sure you have the latest graphics card driver installed.
