Wireless and regular keyboard and muse problems.

Hey people,
I am using my parent's wireless keyboard and mouse because they aren't using it for their computer anyways. Well one day the batteries went dead and we didnt have any. So I went to use my old keyboard and muse(with wires) and now they dont work. Whats wrong with them? I know it has to do with the wireless kb and mouse because my old ones were working fine a while back. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hve you tried restarting the computer with the old k/b and mouse ?You might have to go into the device manager and remove keyboards/mice first.
