XP - AutoChk not found, everything else works

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me with this...I've read the other forum messages but they don't quite apply to this situation.

On XP I am trying to run the Degrag tool, but it says that CHKDSK is scheduled to run and because it is NTFS it has to reboot to do it.

When rebooting it provides an error "autochk not found". Then it skips it and loads windows just fine. Everything works fine on my disk - it is healthy - but just fragmented.

The chkdsk and autochk files are in the c:\windows\system32 folder with the same size and date as another XP system I have.

There was a forum msg that suggested removing a Windows Hotfix, but my system does not have that hot fix applied.

Any other suggestions on what to do? I tried downloading diskeeper but it won't run without chkdsk /f running first either.

Thanks in advance,
Brent
