XP Home can't find IDE-1

I'm suddenly having a problem booting one of my machines into XP Home. It finally resolves to ask for bootdisk because it can't find the boot record of my harddrive.

I'm able to F8 at boot and select the IDE-0 (not IDE-1 like the subject says) and it boots fine. I've check my BIOS and the boot order is IDE-1, CD-ROM, Floppy.

The only thing I've done is 'try' to install Sound Blaster drivers from the original disk because my sound card no longer works since the upgrade to XP (another thread:-/).

Any suggestions?
