incorrect function

I am useing a new genuine microsoft WIN XP cd

Someone else had this problem they fixed it by replacing the motherboard, replacing the CD didn't work. You dont have a Gigabyte motherboard by any chance do you.

With a 550 MHz, FSB at 66, PC-100 memory, and Service Pack 2, you need a lot of memory...Then you have issues with your hard drive, perhaps. You are fighting a losing battle with that equipment. Isn't it time to upgrade. You can get a Penitum IV for $100... or a refurbished Dell for not much more... see pcsurplusonline and others.

I would reformat and reinstall, watching every message as you go... I think you will catch the errro.

Yeah I got it working. The XP CD I bought is faulty I think. I Installed it with a different XP CD, It worked. and as far as an upgrade, its not my computer ,its one of my kids 1st computer.

thanks for the replies .
