Hey guys, i know a little about computer but not to much.... i have a dell inspiron 1100 laptop, the hard drive went in it, so i ordered a new hard drive, when it came in a installed it...i went to load XP from the XP cds i got with the computer from dell...all the computer tells me is "invalid system disk"..whats is going on with it...i have tried setting the BIOS to load from the CDROM..same message given..

I assume your hard drive was formatted....

you will have to boot off your CD rom that has windows....

if it won't boot, your CD is bad OR
Dell has your previous HD serialized..... and the CD is trying to detect a hard drive that is not installed.

I never buy name brands if I can help it - just for this reason.

Get a copy of straight XP - rather than a Dell OEM disc.....

as Tedster suggests: "Dell has your previous HD serialized" which means that the CD wont install on anything other than your previous hard drive

i suggest either contacting dell (if they supplied the replacement) OR get an original XP CD
