yahoo virus--please advise

Hello All--

I'm new to the list and am looking for help.

Basically, this is what happened. I created a yahoo email list and sent out a message to a group of people. At some point, a virus hit, and now it is sending out messages of a pornographic nature (although the pics are not available, the various subject lines indicate this) to the emails on my list. The addresses from which they seem to be coming are also from my list; however, the body of the text contains a series of replies with names unrelated to my list names. I have seen a virus like this before but never been the one spreading it. I've requested that the moderator remove me from the listserv as protection, and I am using another email address until I can fix this. Although I have run a scan (and have included a webscan with this), my software found no virus. I'm not computer savvy enough to know what to do at this point. Can anyone give advice??

Thanks for the help!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Go HERE and follow the instructions exactly.

Post a fresh HJT log into this thread, only after doing the above. There is no need to open a new thread.

This is actually a new threat that only affects Yahoo Mail. Most AV software should now have a patch to fix infected machines as-well-as Yahoo has taken steps to remove the infection. Please go HERE and read the article about the infection.

Most of what I have read suggest upgrading to Yahoo's new Mail Beta as the worm does not work on the newer version of Yahoo's web email.

That`s an interesting article.

Perhaps you would consider posting the info in the News and interesting links forum.

You can quote part of the article, as long as you give credit to the author and say where the article has come from, then post your link.

Regards Howard :)
