yellowTab and beunited.org Join to Develop and Promote Open Source BeOS Standards.

German Distributor of BeOS has joined the effort to develop standards for open source BeOS-compatible operating systems

Denver Colorado, Germany

yellowTab i.G., the leading commercial distributor of BeOS in Germany has agreed to join beunited.org, the leading standards organization for Open Source BeOS-Compatible Operating Systems (OSBOS), and together forge a new era for alternative desktop operating systems.

yellowTab has been quietly developing its OSBOS, code named "Zeta", for the last year and preparing it for distribution in the near future. Much of the current components of Zeta are based on open source code and more components will be replaced as new open source versions are developed. For for yellowTab, the decision to join beunited.org was a simple one says founder Bernd Korz, "We have been a supporter and proponent for standards on BeOS for a long time, but there was never a real opportunity to establish these standards until beunited.org recently announced their new vision. It is very important to us that Zeta works with all applications developed for BeOS and we see standards as a way to achieve this.

The Be operating system, developed by Be Incorporated, is widely claimed as one of the most advanced operating systems in the world. Known as the "MediaOS", BeOS was designed for, and achieved, superior performance in the areas of digital audio and video. Recognized worldwide for its impressive technical achievements and breakthrough ease of use, the BeOS gained a faithful following of millions of users and developers around the globe. After the closure of Be Inc. in 2001 the loyal BeOS user base was left with an operating system that was no longer supported. As a result, beunited.org was re-focused to support all open source projects implementing BeOS by establishing a central non-profit organization for the development of standards.

The goal of beunited.org is to provide a forum for the development of a consistent, open specification for the OSBOS platform and to increase the demand for products and services based on this platform worldwide. beunited.org represented the a vast majority of the established projects, except one. "We are very pleased to have yellowTab become an OSBOS project member of beunited.org." says Simon Gauvin, president of beunited. "With yellowTab joining" continues Gauvin, "beunited.org truely represents a globally united effort in the development of open standards for OSBOS."
