AMD may have high hopes for the future, but Intel is currently reaping the very sweet benefits of being the only x86 vendor with a quad-core offering. Sticking to their goals last year of a million sold before Barcelona, Intel has announced that they have reached that point. While it doesn't mean that many are in production, they have shipped a million quad core CPUs 2 months before they had hoped for last year.

Will Tigerton impact this even more? Could they see 2 million before the year is through? With upcoming price cuts and several new CPUs on the way it's definitely a possibility.

Quad-core on the desktop might ultimately be a different story. We've still yet to see hordes of user-end software that takes advantage of multiple cores, though that hasn't prevented people from gobbling up dual core left and right.
