Odds are if there's an Intel solution, there's an AMD one as well. Lately, Intel has been pushing FB-DIMM, a newer memory technology Intel is pushing as more reliable and faster when compared to existing DRAM. Now, AMD is announcing a competing standard, with similar designs but a different implementation.

The "Socket G3 Memory Extender" as it is called will be offered as part of the Opteron platform in the near future, and will be able to use DDR3 modules. Performance specifications or what it will directly offer over FB-DIMM isn't clear, though it is likely it will be offered only with Opteron platforms so it may not matter.
