Asus has launched a new series of CULV-based notebooks to counter the likes of Acer's Timeline series and help bridge the gap between netbooks and higher end ultra-portables. Their new UnLimited family includes 12.1", 13.3", 14", and 15.6" systems, all with the same 1366x768 display resolution, ultra low voltage Core 2 Duo, Solo or Celeron processors, and a black or brushed aluminum chassis that is less than an inch thick.

Starting at the low-end with the 12-inch UL20A, users will be able to choose between a 1.2GHz Celeron and 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and a 160 or 320GB hard drive. Stepping up to the UL30A brings a 13.3-inch LCD as well as the option of a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo and a 500GB hard drive. Both models will ship with Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics and no optical drive.

Then at the higher end of the spectrum the 14" UL80V and 15.6" UL50V – available in five different versions – feature discrete Nvidia GeForce G 210M graphics and support for up to 4GB DDR3 or 8GB DDR2 memory depending on the model. Also included are a built-in DVD burner and an 8-cell battery rated for 12 hours of use on a single charge. Additionally, all UL laptops feature "exclusive Turbo33 technology," which according to Asus "adds more than 30% processing power."

The company hasn't said when or at what prices any of the UL systems will ship, though Newegg is already listing the UL30A model with a 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor at $599.99.
