Maingear has applied a fresh coat of paint to its eX-L 15 gaming notebook – the "world's fastest" 15-incher. First introduced with a Core 2 Quad last August, the eX-L 15 has been gutted and outfitted with the latest chips from Intel and AMD. The overhauled machine now offers processors ranging from the 2.4GHz Core i5-520M to the 1.73GHz Core i7-820QM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics, and 4GB or 8GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM.

The system ships default with a 15.6-inch 1600x900 display, but a 1080p alternative is available for an extra $95. Storage options include 250GB, 320GB or 720GB hard drives as well as five different solid-state drives from 80GB to 512GB and a DVD or Blu-ray burner. Connectivity look to be standard, including Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, four USB 2.0 ports, Firewire, an ExpressCard 34 slot, and a 7-in-1 card reader.

The eX-L 15 ships with your choice of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate, and prices start at $1,599.
