We both agreed that the Bose Sleepbuds 2 aren’t bad; they’re just not great. And they’re definitely way too expensive. If you were desperate to completely block the outside world and struggled to fall asleep every night, they might be a great investment at $100, or even $150. But a $250 wearable whitenoise machine is borderline absurd.

The Bose SleepBuds II are undoubtedly among the most comfortable earbuds to use when falling asleep, even for side sleepers, but the high price and restrictions on playing music or podcasts from outside the Bose Sleep app may put some off.

There’s only one more question to ask: are they worth the price? That depends. If you have real problems sleeping because of environmental noise or even tension, it might be worth it to pay $250 for a pair of earbuds whose only purpose is to help you sleep. (Of course, if your sleeplessness is due to medical issues such as sleep apnea, a doctor’s visit is probably in order.) The effectiveness of Bose’s Sleepbuds II is probably very personal. They may work well for some people and less so for others. In my case, they did improve my sleep somewhat, for which I was grateful — but whether they’d be worth the investment is something I’d have to consider.

As positive as our experience has been with the product, your sleeplessness will need to be a significant problem to justify the $249 investment. Considering you can get a quality bedside white-noise machine for $30-40, you should only splurge on the Sleepbuds if you've tried external noise masking and found it lacking for your particular sleep problems.

The Sleepbuds II come with a 90 day ‘risk free’ trial that includes free delivery and return. This is a smart move because it allows people to try it for themselves for a decent amount of time. It’s also a huge jump on the 30-day trial bestowed upon the original Sleepbuds. So if you are interested, give it a go. You might fall in love. You might not. Either way, you get to try a cool and innovative product that is trying to help people.

Given the hostility toward Bose’s first Sleepbuds (one review claimed “they ruined my sleep”) you’re right to be hesitant. And it does take a bit to get used to having something in your ears all night, although that initial feeling passes quickly. But definitely try these if you have sleeping issues.
