Motorola Moto G Power - 2024

The Moto G Power 5G 2024 is a surprising phone, offering many specs and features you'd expect for a $299 phone while adding more that you rarely see on a phone this cheap, like wireless charging and 30W wired charging. The vegan leather back is a nice touch, and we appreciate the inclusion of NFC. Unfortunately, there are still some performance issues holding the phone back, but that shouldn't ruin the overall experience.

The Moto G Power (2024) is Motorola's most complete Moto G device yet, offering solid charging support, decent rear cameras, and a vegan leather finish that's comfortable in the hand. However, it suffers from a dreadful update commitment, a lack of water resistance, and weak gaming performance. The Moto G Power 5G (2024) takes a few more steps forward than back, but keeps finding new ways to stumble.

When people are buying a budget Android smartphone, they need the basics met, and save for the camera, the Moto G Power 5G meets the basics. Motorola's software and Glance integration are differentiations that might not work for everyone, but elevate the Moto G Power beyond its giant battery and screen. The beauty of the phone is that its giant battery and screen are most likely going to be enough for most people. Everything else is gravy.

While it comes with compromises, the Moto G Power (2024) is still hard to beat at under $300, primarily for its long lasting battery. We also like the unique vegan leather design and fast charging. But the dim display and lackluster cameras are strikes against this budget phone.

At the end of the day, even with increased competition, the Moto G Power 5G (2024) is a great $300 phone. It represents one of the best phone values at any price that you can buy today.

I am nitpicking now. For under $300, the Moto G Power 5G captured totally adequate photos I was happy with over the several weeks I used it. (I have a lot of nice shots in the gallery above!) Most people will find it more than sufficient; just maybe bring a proper camera if you're trying to capture a special event.

Motorola may be a budget smartphone pioneer, but it's starting to struggle compared to the competition. While the Moto G Power (2024) has some good things going for it, it's not enough to make up for the poor display, mediocre performance, and the sheer amount of ads scattered through the OS.

The Moto G Power 5G is a solid mid-range option for those looking for a reliable device with decent performance and great battery life. At its MSRP of $299 USD, it is definitely a compelling option, though it may face tough competition from other devices in its price range.
