Will the Thoroughbred really be much cooler ?

Die Size 0.18 = 129mm²
Die Size 0.13 = 80mm²

37% smaller

Power 1900+ @ 0.18 = 68.0 W
Power 1900+ @ 0.13 = 61.8

10% smaller

The new cores still seem power hungry to me :(
This isn't an official AMD chart so take it with a grain of salt.
I like thinking that the extra power is due to a bigger cache ( 512K wouldn't be bad at all ).
 
hmm, i think that the numbers on that chart are wrong, because the 1900+ and the 2000+ are already out, and the don't use a .13 micron process. Personally, since those numbers are wrong, i wouldn't trust the rest of the numbers on that graph. lol, especially since its in what looks like french.

They are listed on the graph at 0.18 and 0.13. AMD will re-release certain allready available CPU speeds with the 0.13 core.
 
i think the Tbred will be cooler..... all 0.13micron chips should be cooler than the 0.18 ones...... that is also one of the purpose of going on to a smaller die size

The Throughbred's have to be cooler - I mean we already have "Vacuum Cleaner" style fans at the moment, what would they use to cool them - "Jet Engine's". Or would Watercooling/VapoChill/Liquid Nitrogen be a Minimum Requirement?

More like an isotronic feedback freon resonator.

Speaking of which, I think the Thoroughbred will be cooler. I'm don't feel so confident about the Hammer line though.
 
Im wondering if the T-Bred is worth waiting for. I have a nice system ready to go at Newegg.com based on the Palomino. I just know that if I wait for the T-Bred there will be something else to wait for (Hammer).
 
The think is, it doesn't matter how long you wait, or what you are waiting for, there is always something better to wait for.

If you wait until Thoroughbreds are released then Palaminos should be a bit cheaper. :)

I was thinking this as well but the 1800+ is 110.00 at Newegg.com. How much cheaper can it get..
 
It was bad enough everyone calling Athlons Athalons.
Can we at least refer to the Palomino core by its correct name, its not that hard....
Svtcobra, when the hammer comes out will you be getting one?
If so I would just hold off unless you really need the extra performance now. Or if that $110 is burning a hole in your pocket then go for it... ;)

About 40% cheaper after May 27th. Should be less than $70.
 
First preview of the AMD AthlonXP Thoroughbred -> AMD "Thoroughbred" AthlonXP

It seems to run cooler ( that's the least it could do ;) ) but no performance increases with the Palomino when running at the same speed. I just hope the Die shrink will allow for very low prices & heat production.
