Hello,
Somehow winantivirus pro has gotten downloaded on my computer and is messing up everything. I can not find how to track it down and remove it. Also I am getting an error message saying mcshield.exe application error. The exception unknown software exception (0x0070001) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b. Please any suggestions?

i can't find the program to run it. i cant find it and when i look in add/remove programs it is not ther. when i restart my computer a window pops up that says WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 and then below it it says class not registered. and an OK box
 
SmitfraudFix

  • Download SmitFraudFix to your deskop
  • reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
  • Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
  • Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
  • You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
  • The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
  • A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt (Attach the log to your next reply)

ComboFix

  • Download ComboFix to your desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • A window will open with a warning.
  • When the scan completes it will open a text window. Please attach that log back here together with a fresh HJT log.

Caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop. Combofix is a very powerful tool so please do NOT do anything without instruction

Combofix will automatically save the log file to C:\combofix.txt

Download & Install SDFix
  • Download SDFix & save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SDFix.exe & it will extract the file to %systemdrive%
    (Drive that contains the Windows Directory, Typically C:\SDFix)

Boot into Safe Mode
  • Restart your computer & start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard.
  • Select the Safe Mode option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, & then press Enter.

Run SDFix
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder & double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on the screen & also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
  • Attach Report.txt back here

Post all 3 logs when done
 
* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
 
When i download HJTsetup it stops downloading at 75% and acts like it is still downloading but has been in the same spot for like 30 minutes. any suggestions?

I will start you off, but this is only using the HijackThis log. There are some things you need to address now.

It appears you have both AVG v8, which has AV+Spyware program combined and also McAfee Antivirus running. You may have had McAfee through AOL, but you need to stop it from running and delete any of it's processes. Having two antivirus programs running can create a conflict which may actually remove virus protection. You also don't have any Java installed. You need that and should get the most current which is version6, update 7:

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below and let it 'fix':

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis. Reboot into safe mode.

I will leave removal of Plaxo to you: Plaxo is an online address book service. It provides automatic updating of contact information. Users and their contacts store their information on Plaxo's servers. Plaxo struck a deal with America Online to integrate its contact management service with its AOL and AOL Instant Messenger products. It collects personal contact and network information. The service enables sharing of content from multiple different sources across the social web. This is a security risk. IF you decide to remove it:
Check this in the HijackLog to fix:

Boot into Normal Mode. Go to the following site and download Java. If asked whether to Save or Run, choose Save and save to your Desktop:

You can hold off on the installation until the malware cleaning process is finished or until told to install it during the process.

A NOTE to you: You have an excessive number of AOL-related processes running. I suggest you review then and decide if you 1. need them all and 2. if they need to start up and run in the background. If you want help reviewing the AOL entries, I will help you "after" the malware process is complete.
 
As bobbye has started I will let him finish the cleaning process the only thing I can add is that Hijackthis will not remove O23 follow the steps below.

We need to get rid of one of the services running on your machine. To do this, copy (Ctrl +C) and paste (Ctrl +V) the text in the code box below to Notepad.

When i tried to download JAVA i got this message. WINDOWS INSTALLER This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.
 
It would be best if you wait until the malware cleaning is complete. When it is, get the download from this site. SAVE to your desktop and double click from there to install:

NOTE: This will not be the most current version, but it is the only one that worked for others having the installer problem. Once it is on your system, you can try updating from there:
Control Panel> Java> Update tab> 'check for updates'> Caution: this site has the Yahoo Toolbar already checked. UNCHECK it before you download and install.

After the installation, go back into the Update tab and UNCHECK 'check automatically for updates'> answer Yes when asked if you are sure.
 
Please go to Online Malware Scan to scan a suspicious file.**

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.**Close HiJackThis.**Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Accent

Please note any other programs that you don't recognize in that list in your next response.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

Sorry xxdanielxx, I must be getting replies out of order- found this today- "what should i do next? i ran the trend micro scanner and it still came up with ADW_WINFIXER.X."
