Problem accessing Hotmail via OutlookExpress

This is embarrassing! Two problems at once! This one's really critical.

I use dial-up and this morning, my previous subscription having lapsed, switched to a new ISP. Now, I can't access my Hotmail account via OutlookExpress, which otherwise seems to be working just fine. Following are the messages I get. Your help with this one too would be greatly appreciated.

In the very short run, I can use the Explorer to work with the messages on the Hotmail server. Unfortunately, I need to download those messages, then move them to another account, in order to empty my Hotmail account while at the same time archiving those messages.

If I create a new identity or delete the existing Hotmail account from OutlookExpress, I'll lose the messages (both sent and received) which haven't yet been moved to the other account I mentioned, and therefore aren't susceptible to being archived. OutlookExpress won't let you move, delete or export Hotmail messages unless you're connected to the Hotmail server.

I recall seeing something, quite some time ago, to the effect that you could configure OutlookExpress to access your account at Hotmail.com as a Pop3 account via MSN or Microsoft.com, but haven't been able to find the details again. I suppose that might resolve the problem, if that information could be found again.

Any other thoughts, please let me know.

Thanks again,
SRS

1. Authorization Required

Configuration:
Account: Hotmail
Server: http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
User name: srsust@hotmail.com
Protocol: HTTPMail
Port: 0
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800ccc32

2. Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Authorization Required', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC32

3. Header download for the 'Inbox' folder did not complete. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Authorization Required', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC32

Launch Outlook Express & go to the Options -> Account Menu

Double Click on your Outlook Mail Settings & Click on the Server Tab...

See if your user name & password are correct because according to your error message, it seems Outllok express isn't sending those infos to the Hotmail server.

It never occurred to me to check, but it didn't do any good. The info was correct, I re-entered it anyway, and still nothing. But, it was certainly worth a shot.

Thanks,
SRS

Thanks for your help. Here's the ANSWER.

MS is constantly fiddling with Hotmail and, while it was previously possible to have IE set to anonymous login in security settings without adversely effecting OutlookExpress, that's no longer the case. IE, in security settings, must be set to something else. I made that change and my OutlookExpress is now able to access my Hotmail account.

FYI, there is what I believe is a new program called IZYMAIL which avoids such problems by enabling the subscriber to access his/her HTTP Hotmail account as a Pop3 or IMAP4 account (http://www.izymail.com/). Nifty.

Thanks again,

Solution verified

Thanx for the solution, changing the IE security settings as described worked perfectly.

You really saved my day....
