AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT

The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT is going to be a fantastic graphics card for a lot of gamers out there who don't have the cash to shell out for Nvidia's much more expensive rival offering. Overall, it battles the RTX 4070 to a draw, but its performance is only marginally better than the RX 6800 XT, making this card a much more complicated purchase than it really should be.

The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT is easily the best graphics card of this generation so far. It's reasonably priced, has a good chunk of VRAM and has excellent gaming performance where it counts. Unless ray tracing is all you care about, this is the 1440p graphics card for you.

AMD’s Radeon RX 7800 XT trounces the GeForce RTX 4070’s gaming performance for $100 less, albeit with higher power draw and slower ray tracing performance.

Rivaling the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 for a lot less cash, the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT is an exceptional value and the first graphics card you should consider between $300 and $900.

With the $499 RX 7800 XT beating the $599 RTX 4070, we could also see further pressure on Nvidia’s pricing — particularly as RTX 4070 cards can still regularly be found at well above $600. The pricing gets complicated when you factor in the excellent RX 6800 XT, which is still performing well at 1440p even against Nvidia’s latest RTX 4070 and the RX 7800 XT.

We reviewed the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT video card and tested it at 1440p, with ray tracing, and FSR in games. The Radeon RX 7800 XT performs well, when compared at the right price point to the last generation, though its power efficiency is lacking, with high power usage and temperatures. The build is good, but cooling could be improved, the price value for what you get at $499 is tremendously high.

If the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT is a superb blend of great performance across a wide range of titles, particularly those able to enable AMDs FSR, then the Sapphire RX 7800 XT Nitro+ is a faster, cooler, quieter, better looking version of that, which is more than enough reason to award it our OC3D Enthusiast award.

AMD's RX 7800 XT doesn't radically outperform its predecessor, but it does come in $150 lower at launch. At current prices, however, it's effectively a lateral move with some architectural and feature upgrades to sweeten the deal.
