The Xperia ZL is an improvement over the Z, but doesn't shine as brightly next to many of its...

very good) The Sony Xperia ZL all around is a great Android smartphone that certainly feature “the best of Sony in a smartphone.” It has a stunningly beautiful 5-inch display, features some powerful internal specs and offers a great camera...

Here we have the Sony Xperia ZL, the brother of the water proof and dust proof Xperia Z. Both were announced at CES 2013. Both were some of the first 1080p displays out there, right behind the HTC Droid DNA on Verizon. The Xperia ZL is not water proof...

The Sony ZL is a good phone, but it is a tough phone to recommend. I wish the hardware were a little bit better, but it's an improvement over Sony's earlier efforts just the same. The dazzling screen certainly impresses, and the ZL was great at...

If you're fond of Sony's smartphones and software experience, the Xperia ZL is particularly attractive as a no-contract smartphone. It's fast, the UI is clean and pleasing and the camera is very good. Here in the US, I suspect no-contract high end...

With the Sony XPERIA ZL, the company took a double-tiered approach to a hero smartphone release – unlike what Samsung and HTC have done with their HTC One and GALAXY S 4, Sony has created a machine that’s got the same innards as the XPERIA Z, but with...

The Sony Xperia ZL is almost a great phone. Beautiful screen, attractive design, speedy performance, decent camera. Yet in all of those categories there are a few minor problems that collectively mar the overall experience. Any one of them is...

Sony Xperia ZL smartphone. The Sony Xperia ZL isn't a big surprise - another high-end smartphone from Sony with a 5 inch Full-HD display . The display panel is very bright and has good characteristics, although the black level and the narrow viewing...

I rather like the design, which feels modern, if a bit run-of-the-mill. It performs well, serves up plenty of battery life for average use cases, and even has a nice camera once you get used to its limitations (or aren't especially picky). But there are just too many great options out there, and while the Xperia ZL won't disappoint, your money will be better spent elsewhere.

It ticks all of the appropriate boxes: large, full-HD display, a camera that's chock full of megapixels, speedy connectivity, and a beefy quad-core Snapdragon processor. But in a world of iPhones ,the HTC One , and the Samsung Galaxy S4 , ticking off all...

The 2370 mAh Li-Ion battery provides sufficient juice for it to last a normal work day. In our video loop test, it managed to power the device for only 5 hours and 30 minutes. That's disappointing considering the HTC One managed to clock 10 hours with...

These are certainly the best specs Sony has ever put in a phone, but does that translate into a device you actually want to buy? When we first laid eyes on the Xperia ZL at CES 2013, it may not have gotten the attention that it deserved. As the svelte,...

Im afraid not. This is a phone we were ready and even wanting to like, and if Sony had released it at CES rather than merely announce it and then wait five months, wed probably have liked it a lot more, but thats how quickly technology is evolving in...

If the Sony Xperia Z was Batman, then the Sony Xperia ZL would be Robin – a less exciting sidekick, yet a superhero nonetheless. At first we were a bit underwhelmed by the latter's lack of visual appeal, but the more we used it, the more we got used...

Since we reviewed Sony's Xperia Ion less than a year ago, we've had a sense that Sony has been playing catch-up to the rest of the Android handset makers. The Xperia TL "Bond Phone" only reinforced this notion. There's nothing that's necessarily wrong...

The Sony Xperia ZL is the more affordable and slightly smaller sibling to the Xperia Z flagship Android smartphone we recently reviewed. In fact, Sony claims it's the smallest 5" smartphone on the market, and we believe they're right. For a phone with a...

So, why the Sony Xperia ZL and not the Xperia Z? To begin with, this is a question many of you will never be asking, as the pair will not be officially available at the same time on most markets. At first glance, the best case scenario for the Xperia...

The Xperia ZL is a decent handset, but when you frame it alongside its more premium sibling, the Xperia Z, and other new or forthcoming products, it can't compare. When you're investing hundreds of dollars in a new phone and potentially committing yourself to years of service, why settle for anything less than stellar?
