The TCL Pro 5G’s crowning glory is its glossy 6.67-inch curved display. It’ll be perfect for streaming TV on your commute, plus it has very long-lasting battery life. Admittedly with average performance and an okay camera, it’s still not surpassing the competition in any way, so
Our editors hand-pick related products using a variety of criteria: direct competitors targeting the same market segment, or devices that are similar in size, performance, or feature sets.
Despite an awesome display, the TCL 20 Pro is a lackluster phone. It’s a pretty device, but it fails to stand out against the likes of the Pixel 4a 5G or Galaxy A52 5G, both of which cost the same as the TCL 20 Pro 5G.
We’re not fond of the 20 Pro 5G’s low (60Hz) refresh rate, inconsistent shooters, limited 5G support, mono-only speaker, average battery life, and disjointed software experience. As such, it’s not easy to outright recommend, especially when Google’s superb Pixel 4a 5G and Samsung’s potent Galaxy A52 5G exist, and both also cost $500. With all of that said and done, TCL is on the right track with the 20 Pro 5G, we'd just like to see the software catch up with the hardware. Third time’s gonna be the charm, right?
If you’re on T-Mobile and you’d really like a budget device with a flagship look and feel, then the 20 Pro 5G is a good option, with a strong caveat that you’ll be putting up with some issues that competitors have already figured out. Most others would do best to consider one of those $500 midrange heavyweights.
The underwhelming battery life, poor rear cameras, and slow charging make the TCL 20 Pro hard to recommend. The impressive display and good-looking design make the phone a joy to look at, but they still don’t make up for these obvious shortcomings. If you are looking for a premium experience at a fraction of the cost it's not the worst option, but there are better alternatives out there.
If you’re wondering if you should buy the TCL 20 PRO 5G, I’d say no, there’s plenty of better phones on the market at this price range. There is really nothing special here outside of the big internal memory and decent ram. The NXTVISION enhancement is a nice touch and it does take nice selfies but otherwise it leaves a lot to be desired. It is a phone that will work but it’s not worth seeking out.
The TCL 20 Pro 5G is a charming phone packing thoughtful highlights, premium styling, and midrange specs. With 256GB storage and a very good-looking design, the phone’s price seems low, but take a peek at its internals, and it all starts to make sense. The 20 Pro 5G’s processor falls behind today’s flagships, there’s also no telephoto camera, and its charging speeds are slower than some cheaper competition. Nevertheless, it does pack wireless charging, and it’s hard not to be charmed by TCL’s finest phone to date given its balance of flagship flourishes and value where it counts.

The TCL 20 Pro 5G doesn’t have competitive specs, but substitutes that for a great design, and it’s a trade-off that works. While we found its battery life wanting, found its charging speed too slow, and can imagine some people disliking its 60Hz display, in our opinion the good looks of the phone, its display technology and the smart selfie camera more than make up for the shotcomings.
