If you value Windows 8.1 support more than anything, you may find these sub-$300 tablet to look like a bargain. Note however that using desktop apps and typical productivity software like Office is somewhat challenging in this form factor (unless you plan to add a keyboard).

The Toshiba Encore tablet lacks ambition, but also ticks enough boxes to make it a viable purchase. It just fails to excite, and with the various other options available on the market the Encore struggles to stand out. Which might sound...

Toshiba’s first crack at the 8 inch Windows tablet is a successful one, but it’s a pretty ordinary tablet, and really is just playing variations on a theme. That theme appears to be building an 8 inch Windows tablet, which Toshiba has totally done,...

What could have been a nice handheld 8-inch tablet is also held back by a bulky design that makes it look and feel cheap.

Thanks to the solid-state eMMC memory on which Windows 8.1 is installed, the Toshiba Encore wakes up and loads Windows 8.1 nice and quickly – an essential feature for tablet PCs, and it's good to see that Toshiba's hardware and Microsoft's software...

The Toshiba Encore is a Windows 8.1 tablet with more bad points than good so the search for a great small, standalone Windows tablet goes on.

Toshiba's Encore is the latest tablet to rock full Windows 8, and with an 8-megapixel camera, quad-core Intel processor and full Office Home and Student 2013 included for just £249, the 8-inch Encore certainly seems to offer good value for money. But is...

Toshiba's Encore offers a much better experience than previous low-power, Windows 8 tablets we've tested, and we recommend it if you're in the market for a Windows-based tablet device. At 8 inches, it can be a little awkward to use, especially when thick...
