Power Consumption & Temperatures

The power consumption figures are not surprising given what we've already seen from the Radeon HD 5450 and 5670 graphics cards. That said, going on a value basis we should note that the Radeon HD 5570 uses just 11% less power than the GeForce 9600 GT when under load and 15% less at idle.

This is a noteworthy power saving except when you take into account that the Radeon HD 5570 was usually considerably slower than the GeForce 9600 GT in the games we tested.

The operating temperatures were nothing out of the ordinary. Although the Radeon HD 5570 consumes a fraction of the power compared to the Radeon HD 5750, under load it ran a degree warmer likely due to the difference in the reference cooler designs. At idle or under load the Radeon HD 5570 cooler was nearly silent, the next best thing you can get past a passive design.

The Radeon HD 5750 produced similar load and idle temperatures to that of the Radeon HD 4770, while it ran hotter than the GeForce 9600 GT, which admittedly was an older full-sized card using a single-slot cooler.
