Application Performance

AMD processors have always struggled with Excel tests and the A8-3850 is really no different, with a best time of 17.87 seconds -- about 25% slower than the Core i5 655K and even further behind the other Intel chips we tested.

The WinRAR compression time was greatly improved when increasing the AMD A8-3850's memory frequency. The 700MB file compression test was completed 13% faster when using DDR3-1866 memory opposed to 1333MHz memory. This made it a fraction quicker than the Athlon II X4 640, but it was still a long way behind Intel's quad-core processors.

The A8-3850 was on par with the Athlon II X4 640 in Photoshop CS5, which unfortunately made it 13% slower than the Core i5 655K.
