Overclocking Performance

The GTX 980 turned out to be an overclocking monster, allowing us to achieve a 1418MHz core clock, 17% higher than Nvidia's specification and 7% over Gigabyte's factory overclock. Its memory also overclocked well hitting 1978MHz (7.9Gbps), 13% higher than Nvidia's specification. The GTX 970 was also a trooper, hitting a core clock of 1318MHz and a memory frequency of 1953MHz (7.8Gbps).

Thanks to the massive overclock, the GTX 980 was 15% faster in Crysis 3 at 47.4fps while the GTX 970, which wasn't overclocked quite as much, enjoyed an even greater 19% performance boost.
