NVIDIA GeForce/TNT tweak guide

Registry settings

Once you've installed the latest drivers, play a few games & choose your screen resolutions, etc. This will give you an idea of what you'll gain/lose once changes have been made & also creates the necessary registry keys. Now, go into the Windows registry. Click on Start then Run. Type in regedit & press enter. NOTE – As stated above, some of these tweaks may not apply depending on which driver version is installed.

Coolbits, open this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak\]. Right click in the right hand pane & add a New DWORD value entitled CoolBits, give it a value of 3. This adds a few extra options to NVTweak for v-sync & overclocking. Alternatively, you can download the file here.

Multi-texture, open up this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Riva TNT\OpenGL\]. Right click in the right hand pane & add a New DWORD value entitled ForceMultiTexture, give it a value of 1. It is enabled by default when playing in 32bit colour, however in 16 bit games enabling this can cause a performance boost. This will only affects Opengl games. Alternatively, you can download the file here. In newer versions of the nVidia drivers you’ll have to use another registry key to enable this. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\000x\NVIDIA\OpenGL], where x is the key that contains the NVIDIA subkey. Add a New DWORD value entitled ForceMultiTexture & give it a value of 1.

Memory & core speed, open this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\Direct3D]. Here there should be 2 values, MCLK & NVCLK. MCLK is the memory speed & NVCLK is the core speed of the card.

To enable Side band addressing (SBA) on Athlon\Geforce systems open this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\System]. Add 2 New DWORD values. One entitled EnableIrongate2x & give it a value of 1, the other EnableIrongateSBA & give that a value of 1. Alternatively you can download it here. This can improve performance in games that use a high amount of textures.

To force the use of 32-bit textures, open this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\OpenGL]. Edit the value of RenderQualityFlags from a default of 0 to a value of 4.

If you have the 5.08 drivers installed you can to enable anti-aliasing, which will improve visual quality by removing “jaggies” from the image. There is a severe drop in frame rate when enabled however.

Open this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\000x\NVIDIA\OpenGL]. Add/edit a New DWORD value entitled EnableFSAA. Give it a value of 1 to enable anti-aliasing. Give it a value of 0 to disable anti-aliasing (this tweak only applies to the GeForce).

BIOS settings

The TNT1/2, GeForce can benefit from tweaking your BIOS settings, & may solve some problems that you can experience also. You can find out many useful & optimized BIOS settings in the BIOS guide. These can also help to fix problems you may encounter.
