CPU FSB and Memory Frequency PLEASE HELP :)

  1. Hey All!,

I've always looked through but I've found TechSpot to be most resourceful for my needs. :) I love this place!

However, I've run into a basic newbie situation and it burns me I don't know the answer to this.

I have a Soyo P4-RC350 Motherboard. Which supports processors of 400/533/800 FSB Speeds.

    I currently have a P4 2.25 GHz (533 FSB Speed).

The board supposedly allowed installation of PC2100, PC2700 and PC3200 NON-Dual (Single) Channel memory. However, per it's guide it states to use 266 or 333MHZ memory with my 533 FSB processor.

I wish to purchase 2 400MHz PC3200 DDR RAM chips. Although, I don't know if my board will allow that with my current processor.

I'd just go the PC2100 or PC2700 it states at 333MHz for this solution, but I've found the chip I wish to purchase (400MHz PC3200) to be cheaper.

Can I run the 400MHz PC3200 on my Soyo P4-RC350 Motherboard with the P4 2.25 GHz (533 FSB) Processor without worrying about anything getting messed up? Or do you all think it's a bad idea?

You can run the 400mhz RAM at 333 with no problem. With the FSB at 533 the RAM should automatically run at 333 anyway. Ive found that there isnt any real performance difference between 400 and 333.

I can't thank you enough for the reply. I am happy I got such a quick response on here :) Thank you very much Vegasgmc.

I actually went to Best Buy today and figured I'd make it easy and get a 333 PC2700 1024 chip. :) Thanks again!

shouldnt be any problem... the ram will just be clocked down to 333mhz
