ATI says PCI Express will dominate soon

ATI, who recently shipped their one millionth PCI Express graphics card, say they are sure that the standard is going to hit the mainstream soon.

They estimate that by the end of this year, nearly half of the PCs sold will contain a PCI Express graphics card. 12 months after that, they estimate that figure to rise by 40%, bringing the proportion of new machines with PCI Express graphics to 90% by the end of 2005.

This is good news for PC hardware progress. The recall of the Grantsdale PCI Express chipset soon after it was launched did not do PCI Express any favours at all, but now it looks like in spite of this that things are on track as they should be.
