DVD+R Double Layer reaches 8x recording speed

The DVD+RW Alliance has today revealed their plans for a DVD+R DL media which will be able to record double layer at 8x. 8.5 GByte of data can therefore be written onto a DVD+R DL in less than 16 minutes, at a rate of about nine MByte per second. Media and drives should be available in Q1 of 2005.
