Daily Download: Ubuntu Linux

"Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning humanity to others. Ubuntu also means I am what I am because of who we all are. The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world." - ubuntulinux.org

Ubuntu Linux has been getting lots of folks excited. It concentrates on tightly selected bleeding edge packages to focus the distribution on a single CD, and there is never any charge for the OS, never any extra fee for the "enterprise edition" or some such - its all available to you for nought. With a new release every six months, and 18 month support per release, I really recommend giving it a go. The current Ubuntu release supports Intel x86 (IBM-compatible PC), AMD64 (Hammer) and PowerPC (Apple iBook and Powerbook, G4 and G5) architectures.

  1. Quite interesting. I'm in the lookout for a worthy distribution right now as I don't I will keep beating the dead horse aka my FC2 install.Have you tried it ? (not FC2 but Ubuntu I mean)
  2. Not sure but for a limited time they are giving the cd's away with no shipping cost. It appears to be off of based of Debian but appears to be supported way better support (according to there site).[Edited by jstillion on 2004-11-03 08:06:21]
