Apparently, wireless gaming is set to become the most common type of wireless data application in 2005. Currently, the most common type is downloading ring tones, but it's expected that wireless gaming will overtake ring tones in 2005. Three years on from that, wireless gaming is expected to generate almost $1.5 billion in revenues annually. The revenue from gaming subscriptions will grow increasingly important in the next few years, according to a recent study.

One wonders, in fact, will the mobile phone, the mobile gaming device and the mobile mp3 player not merge into one device? Who knows, perhaps in a few years we will all be playing multiplayer games, swapping mp3s and ring tones with our mobiles as freely as we currently send text messages?
