UK man convicted of modding Xbox

By Derek Sooman on
Modding an Xbox became a crime last year in the UK, and now a 22 year old Cambridge graduate has been convicted for doing so. The Electronic & Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) tipped off trading standards and Gwent police after it emerged that the man was offering modded Xboxes with 200GB hard drives containing up to 80 games on his website for 380. He is the first man convicted of the offence.

Elspa said the sentence showed the seriousness of the offence. Deputy director general Michael Rawlinson told the BBC: "The modification of consoles is an activity that Elspa's anti-piracy team is prioritising. It is encouraging to see the UK courts do the same."
