Could some future version of the Xbox 360 wind up using HD-DVD technology? About a month ago, Bill Gates said that "the initial shipments of Xbox 360 will be based on today's DVD format," whilst he was speaking at a conference co-hosted with HD-DVD creator Toshiba in Tokyo. Nothing seems at all concrete at this point, but it does seem likely that Microsoft is at least considering a move to HD-DVD in the future. However, expect Microsoft to adopt whatever format wins the next generation DVD format war, which is still raging to this day, with little resolution currently in sight, despite extensive talks.

"We are looking at whether future versions of Xbox 360 will incorporate an additional capacity of an HD-DVD player or something else." - Bill Gates.
