Taiwan producers lean towards HD DVD

Despite the recent coming together of various R&D sects of companies producing HD DVD and Blu-Ray technologies, there is a still going to be a market bias. Many manufacturers in Taiwan, a country that produces a substantial amount of the optical drives and optical discs for the world, seem to be leaning towards HD DVD over blu-ray. The primary motivation for this seems to be cost, which of course in an industry where you are manufacturing millions upon millions of the same item over and over, is a big factor.

We are supposed to be seeing some of these new-age drives as early as this year, although what you see on the shelves and what they say we will have now may be completely different things. In either case it will be interesting to see what wins out.
