Intel 'Santa Rosa' Centrino to appear in 2007

Sometime in H1 2007 we should see Intel's fourth-generation Centrino notebook platform appear. Known as 'Santa Rosa', the solution will take the hardware's frontside bus speed to 800MHz. Possibly based on the upcoming 'Merom' mobile CPU, 'Santa Rosa' will incorporate 'Crestine', the successor to today's Express 945GM and 945PM mobile chipsets. Crestine is almost certainly going to be Direct X 10 compatible. Additional technology to be included is 'Kedron', Intel's next-generation WLAN chipset.

  1. This is awesome, direct X 10? Man, the notebooks just keep getting better and better. This is going to be one fast notebook, in that it will contain a whole lot of power, and processing speed. I cannot wait for this notebook, along with direct X 10 to be released. In light of this, I'm sure the full performance of direct X 10, will be apparent in Microsoft's new operating system, Windows Vista.[Edited by MonkeyMan on 2006-01-16 18:41:18]

430.html[/url]Nice for checking your email...and whatever else you could possibly imagine! wow, that is gonna be nice. mabye by the time i buy a lap-top, it will have gone down in price.
  3. Belive it or not, this story appealed to me more after I heard about DX10! I can't wait to see all of the new shader effects that will be available in new games! With that in mind, imagine that on a laptop! This will no doubt be a fast chip and I can't wait to see what kind of benchmarks this thing'll churn out.
  4. First appearance in H1 2007? So that means they'll be released sometime in 2008. Nevertheless, 4MB of L2 cache just sounds crazy. This is not to mention Direct X 10, of course.I wonder how much power the Santa Rosa laptop will need. From the limited specs presented in the article, it appears an abundant of power is needed, which really detracts from the purpose of a laptop. Even with the ability to decrease CPU to reduce power usage, I can't imagine the notebook being anything less than a wattage hog. Another thing with the progress of technological advance is heat dissipation. I hope good preventative measures are thought up and taken prior to the release. There aren't many notebooks currently available that can be placed on a person's lap for more than 20 minutes before his (I don't dare use "her" in fear of my girlfriend overlooking my shoulders) leg hairs are burnt to a crisp, I don't want to know what the 4th generation Centrino is capable of.But overall, this is definitely something to look forward to in the future, however distant.
  5. wow, the whole Core duo is just here and intel has already planning the next wave. You can't really help but wonder just how far ahead is intel planning. I hope they don't get upstaged by AMD like amd64 has done to the whole netburst.
  6. A fierce competition is something we can all win from, let's hope that they battle more and more, so that we may buy some good procs. at the lowest price. Honestly, I'm a big AMD fan, but I don't think that they'll make it in the notebook matket. If they do, Intel's fate is doomed.... Not that it's bothering me
  7. I use Intel but i am very suppostive of AMD. They better get cracking on a competirot to this!
