iTunes is growing, according to statistics gathered by Nielsen NetRatings. Figures indicate that traffic to iTunes grew by 241% in 2005, boosting the popularity of Apple's iPod. Some 14% of the net's active population are regularly using the iTunes service, and the numbers of people going to the site grew from 6.1 million to 20.7 million between December 2004 and 2005.

"Consumers have clearly indicated that they are eager to control their own music libraries, one song at a time," said Jon Gibs, director of media analytics at Nielsen NetRatings.

 1. Wow, those are some impressive numbers. I've never used iTunes.. but then I dont own an iPod. It will be especially interesting to see what Apple does with iTunes in the future. There is a lot of potential.

(Pause) And stop wasting money on stupid things like the Ipod Nano which make Movile TV look good!
 3. I've been using iTunes since the 4th gen iPods. Although I haven't been buying much music off of it anymore, I do particularly like some of the free video podcasts.
That is definetly good growth for one year. Taking into account that internet usage is growing all the time and music application are becoming more "user frienly" and simplistic, growth shoud be expected. However, those numbers are almost tripled, that is quite impressive. I have not really used Itunes, but have a friend who does. Personally i preffer winamp...do to the large number of custimizations it affords and such. I guess i'll have to ask my friend why he preffers Itunes...http://www.winamp.com/
 5. You see these figures because itunes does not bleed you dry. In fact they reward people with quality. I wonder if riaa and mpaa will ever adopt this approach? NAHHHHHHHHHHHHH....sounds like a pipe dream.
 6.
iTunes users growing
What were we waiting for? Less users? ;-)
 7. That's an amazing increase of usage in one year. I'm actually really surprised how much Itunes is gaining in popularity. I never really thought it would get this far, but here it is. I use Itunes almost every week to get new Lost episodes and some new music. I'm overall pretty impressed with the service. Hopefully Itunes will continue to expand, although it would help if they lowered their prices just a litte bit.
 8. Nice numbers, but are they taking into account the amount of users who are only visiting becaue they won free downloads in a promotion? Itunes are a very popular prize nowadays probably because of the lack of shipping and handling/distribution costs and because sponsors can give away huge amounts of single itune prizes in any one promotion. I know of at least 2 instant win promotions currently giving away itunes, and it's been a pretty popular prize for the last year.We use it here but at least half if not more of our downloads have been free so far. We dont have an Ipod either asphix, you don't have to own one to download itunes.
 9. i think this is happening because itunes its just so easy to use and the video and music library just keeps on growing just yesterday ichecked and new networks are in like MTV and COMEDY CENTRAL nice !!!
