In what comes as absolutely no surprise, Microsoft is seeking appeal on the decision made in the EU over monopoly issues. Namely, in this instance, the decision revolving around Microsoft's communications protocols and Microsoft's unwillingness to openly share their trade secrets.

Microsoft is claiming that interoperability has always been possible, and that "abuse" of didn't occur. They also make the claim that sharing this information could harm their business as it would divulge too much information to their competitors. Likely this will continue for many more years, and by then Microsoft will have moved on to the next generation of their protocols. Should Microsoft be required to release this information? Hard to say.
