Ending months of speculation, Nintendo has announced that the real name of the forthcoming Revolution console will be...

"Nintendo Wii."
Pronounced as "We", this will be the new name of the console that was previously code named Revolution. I must admit, for a moment I was kind of wondering if this was the first of April or not... Revolution is a pretty catchy name, Wii... well, isn't. Nevertheless, Nintendo seem just crazy about the name, and the marketing machine is already rolling.

"While the code-name 'Revolution' expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else," Nintendo said in a statement on the Flash website it launched today revealing the name.
One would guess that it is Nintendo's intention to break the new console away from the traditional games market, going for a name that is more consumer-friendly... or so they think. I sense a whole raft of jokes coming on...
