Zango intentionally using MySpace as a distributor?

Recently a scandal was discovered with Zango having profiles on MySpace that silently pushed their software onto your machine, without warning. While they initially said it was done by an employee and was a “mistake”, it seems that could now be all a pack of lies. According to some annoymous tipsters and other informants, including Zango themselves, their actions on MySpace are no accident and not going away. In fact, it appears that Zango encourages their affiliates to use many devious tricks to push their spyware through MySpace. This particular snippet was just absolutely too good to pass up:

…more profitably, *go to a bunch of your friends* who have popular profiles and pay them (it's up to you so much. One of my partners said 5$..maybe offer to split the money with them?) to put a zango video into their profile through your site. This will give you hundreds of extra installs a day (this probably works even better than having them on your actual site).

The full transcript of the supposed email is available, and is not only stunning but gives us a much better look at Zango as a company. Of course, there's always the doubt – Zango has made a lot of enemies and these rumors could be just that, rumors. Take this with a grain of salt, but do take it as another reminder that even the most popular and “friendly” places on the net can be targets of those who want to abuse your computer.
