Microsoft brings GA program to Office
The controversial Genuine Advantage program that Microsoft implemented this year for Windows is now going to be implemented for Microsoft Office as well. Cleverly dubbed “Office Genuine Advantage”, the program began today, affecting only certain types of files downloaded from within Microsoft Office. It'll soon spread, and starting in January will begin applying to Office Update in the same way it applies to Windows. Despite numerous complaints and figures claiming false positives as high as 42%, Microsoft assures people it is “quick and simple”, and comes stock as part of Windows Vista. Office is the second most pirated piece of Microsoft software, and a rollout like this is probably something here to stay for the long run. Will it actually help curb piracy? Get ready!
