AMD to release two new Opterons
AMD is planning several new goodies tomorrow, including the release of the new Opterons and a series of price cuts on existing CPUs. The x220 and x218 HE series Opterons will be based on the older 90nm process, with the x220 being a 2.8GHz chip designed for 2-way servers, and the x218 HE designed for high end systems that need a less power hungry CPU. The HE, at 2.6GHz, only requires about 68W, significantly less than other similarly-clocked Opterons.
At the same time, many Opteron models will also likely be getting a price cut, since these new Opterons will be their successors and leave a good margin for price drops.
