Acer profits up significantly in 1Q 2007

Despite their bad luck this year, Acer is doing quite well. They have seen a huge 40% gain in net profits this quarter, prompting them to kick money back to their investors. This is good news for the almost-underdog laptop company, which has been brutally working to keep their spot as the #3 supplier of notebooks worldwide. They face stiff competition, both above and below, with Dell and HP towering over them and Lenovo and Toshiba right behind them. How will their latest issues, such as the battery recall, impact them?

More importantly, how will the lawsuits brought against by HP impact future business?
