Four men face prison over Panda Worm

By Justin Mann on
The Panda Worm, which spread amongst over a million PCs since its inception, caused a lot of headache, particularly in China. Eventually, the author was caught. He apologized for creation of the worm and even tried to create a fix, but failed to do so.

Now, him and three other men will be facing charges for creation and distribution of the worm, something uncommon worldwide and even less common in China. They face being sent to prison, up to five years, for their parts in it. It isn't mentioned whether the authors later actions in trying to stop the worm will play a part in the case, but the article as well as the entire story demonstrates how increasingly common it is for malware to be written for profit.

These charges come after a series of arrests earlier in the year, though not all of those arrested were charged.
