Asustek delays Eee PC shipments

Even though Asustek's Eee PC was originally supposed to hit the market in the third week of September, the company is now expected to delay shipments of its low-cost notebook to the end of October, as the computer maker reportedly decided to install more Linux-based software on its notebooks to make the device much more attractive to end-users.

Despite of the setback, the company still plans to start shipments of its Eee PCs ahead of One Laptop per Child non-profit organization, who is expected to ship its XO laptops in November. The first Asustek Eee PCs are projected to cost between $199 and $369, depending on hardware configuration, and the company plans to ship 200,000 - 300,000 notebooks by the end of this year.
