Sony has long touted the expanding capabilities of its PlayStation 3, with the console being able double as a Blu-ray player, a dual digital TV tuner and personal video recorder through the PlayTV accessory, which will be available in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain early next year.

Now, Korean telecom operator KT and Sony Computer Entertainment Korea are teaming up to launch an internet-based TV service in November that runs on the PlayStation 3 game console, allowing users to download and store content for their viewing pleasure whenever they want. The company hopes the deal will help boost console sales, which have been lagging in the U.S. and Japanese markets while its rival Nintendo is faring well with the cheaper Wii game machine. Neither Sony nor KT said how much PS3 owners will have to pay for the service.
