Asus Eee PC gets reviewed
Last week, the much-anticipated Asus Eee PC was officially released in Taiwan amid tremendous user response. While the 7-inch budget notebook is yet to be released stateside, Mark Spoonauer over at Laptop Mag got his hands on the new Asus Eee PC 701 and gave it a full review.
Spoonauer praises the $400 notebook for its simple UI Linux OS saying it’s “ten times simpler to use than any Windows machine, starts up twice as fast, and is only about a fifth of the cost of other systems in its weight class.” There were a few complaints, though. According to Spoonauer, installing new applications was less-than intuitive, and he also reported some problems getting the embedded webcam to work with Skype – something Asus has promised to fix through a driver update early next year.
Although the review notes you can get a laptop with a bigger screen and better specs for the same amount of money, all in all, the Eee PC will definitely make an excellent secondary computer that will come in handy for working on-the-go without being a pain to carry around. Head over to Laptop Mag to read the full review.
