Eye-Fi launches world's first Wi-Fi SD card
Eye-Fi, a California-based company, today announced what they claim is the world’s first wireless SD memory card for digital cameras, allowing digital camera owners to automatically send pictures to a computer on their home network via Wi-Fi.
After a short set-up process, the Eye-Fi card also allows users to choose from 17 different online photo-sharing applications, printing services, social networks and blog sites to upload pictures automatically as soon the camera is in range of the home network. A couple of drawbacks, however, are its incompatibility with Wi-Fi hotspots and the fact that it drains more battery.
The 2GB Eye-Fi card is now available for $99.99 at online retailers such as Amazon.com, Buy.com, and Walmart.com.
